How to Make Homemade Organic Baby Food

Getting Started with Homemade Organic Baby Food

The process of introducing your baby to solid foods should begin with talking with your pediatrician. He can evaluate at what age this should take place. You also need to get a list of approved foods babies can eat and in what order at what age. Once you have the list, it is suggested that you buy some organic jarred food to figure out what your baby like. It is a good idea to always keep a few organic jarred food on hand in case of emergency.

What you Need:
The next step is to invest in a food processor for $30 or food mill for $10 if you do not have either one of these. For storing the baby food you will need food cube trays, preferably not plastic, and lots of shatterproof glass containers. Lastly , invest in an organic baby cookbook to guide you along the process. How to Make:
Get your list of the organic approved foods from your doctor and head to your local health food store or farmer’s market. At first it might me hard to judge how many sweet potatoes or bananas you will need to buy, so I suggest start out with a couple of each item and you will get better at the purchasing as time goes on. Cooking the food can be done by steaming in a fry pan with a little bit of water in the bottom of the pan or if you have a steamer use that. Drain and reserve the excess water. Place the food in the processor or food mill and puree. You may need to add some of the cooking liquid to thin is out when pureeing.
Place the puree in the food cube trays and pop in freezer. The next day transfer the cubes to individual glass containers with one or two cubes in each, date the containers and pop them back into the freezer.

Come mealtime, heat the individual portion and watch you baby have a healthy organic meal. Live Organic Baby!
