The condition of a mother’s health before and during the pregnancy is very important to her child’s life. When thinking about your health it is not just the foods you eat. Here are the steps to evaluate of the necessary changes that need to take place to be in your best physical health condition.

Food-Implement a whole food diet and start reading labels if you haven’t already. Make sure you are eating a good variety of foods and getting plenty of protein, folic acid, calcium and whole grains. Check out a list of foods you should give up while pregnant. Avoid package foods. Drink plenty of water- 1/2oz for every pound you weigh. Give up caffeine and alcohol. Read more….

Vitamins- If possible get on a prenatal vitamin before getting pregnant. There are organic ones that are dye-free and more natural ingredients. Check with your doctor to make sure it has everything you need especially folic acid to help prevent neural tube defects.

Beauty Products-Look at what products you are using. The chemicals in them can harm you and your growing baby- no more zit cream, alpha hydroxies, remove nail polish. There are no government regulations on organic beauty products. Read labels, stick to natural products such as coconut oil that can be used as a moisturizer and has other health benefits.

Water-The basics of water is first stop using bottled water. Test your water for contaminants and purchase an appropriate solution. Install a shower head filter to reduce further exposure to chlorine if that is found in your water. Get rid of the plastic shower curtain- it is a known carcinogen. Read more…..

Air- Fresh air is far better then your indoor air. Open the windows as much as you can, weather permitting. Take a walk around the block at work or home to get fresh air .When this is not possible, turn on your air purifier. Look around your house and start making a list of what furniture, cleaning products, kitchen items might need to be eliminated. This might not be able to be done right away but take note when they need to be replaced.

Home-Getting started in your home can be overwhelming. Get Rid Of: Get started with your cleaning products- eliminate and replace with one good green all-purpose cleaner. Go into your kitchen see what you are storing cooked food in- use glass not plastic. What you are cooking in- no Teflon-throw it out. Lastly try to get rid of all plastic anything in your next recycle. It is expensive to replace furniture but plan ahead so when you are replacing it, you  want to buy an organic mattress and  safe foam in your couches.
House Projects: Keep renovations while pregnant to a minimum. Do not be in the house while painting is going on or removing carpet . It is not recommended to replace carpet with more carpet.
